マアジより細長く丸い断面の体。尾の直前にある小離鰭が決め手で、背側・腹側の両方を確認します。ゼイゴがあるだけではマアジと区別できません。
魚を針から外すときはひれとゼイゴに注意。赤身魚なので釣ったら早く冷やし、常温に置かない。
