Sabiki fishing
サビキ釣り
A multi-hook rig imitates tiny prey while a bait basket releases a small trail of shrimp. Fish vertically at a permitted pier rather than swinging exposed hooks through a crowd.
Tackle and preparation
A manageable telescopic or light shore rod, spinning reel, small sabiki hooks and a bait basket; use the weight rating printed on the rod.
On the water
- Lower the rig, then lift gently to release a little bait.
- Pause at the depth where bites occur; move through the water column if there are none.
- Bring the fish clear without swinging hooks towards other people.
