Small jigheads and soft plastics let you search for horse mackerel at a precise depth. Current and fall time matter as much as lure colour.
Tackle and preparation
Light lure rod, small spinning reel and a fine leader. Start with a jighead you can control in the wind without overpowering the rod.
On the water
- Count the sinking time before retrieving.
- Use short movements and pauses with light tension.
- Repeat the successful count; change depth before changing every lure.
