Sevenband grouper show broad dark bands and a pale rear edge to the tail fin. Adults are targeted with live bait and offshore jigs; small inshore juveniles need a different approach.

Fishing methods
Nomase — live-bait fishing
A live baitfish swims on the rig to attract larger predators. The bait must remain lively and the rig must suit the water depth and local rules.
Vertical jigging
Metal jigs are worked below a boat through the depth occupied by predators.

A single weighted shrimp bait is lowered towards bottom for seabream. A natural fall and a readable line are important.

体に太い暗色の帯が並ぶ大型のハタ。尾びれの後縁に白い縁取りがあり、若魚では帯がはっきりする。岸で釣れる幼魚と、沖の大物釣りでは必要な装備が大きく違う。
ひれの棘と大型の引きに注意。針外しはプライヤーを使う。
