Striped bonito

Sarda orientalis
Striped bonito have sharp teeth and narrow stripes high on the flank, unlike the belly stripes of skipjack. They take jigs and other lures around baitfish and can run sideways quickly. Prompt chilling helps preserve their soft flesh.
Habitat and season
Open coastal and offshore waters, including the Kii Peninsula, Shikoku and Kyushu.

カツオに似た回遊魚だが、鋭い歯と背側の細い縞が見分ける手掛かり。磯や船のルアー釣りに現れ、横へ速く走る。身の柔らかさを生かすため、釣った後の冷却と扱いまで釣行準備に含めたい。
鋭い歯には長いプライヤーを使う。速やかに冷却し、常温で傷んだ魚は加熱で安全に戻せない。
