比較的頭が大きく、眼の前の輪郭にくぼみがある小型のカレイ。白い裏側の背腹の縁に黄色い帯が出ることが見分ける手掛かりです。
周囲と投げる方向を分け、後方を確認。小型の身にも細かな骨が残るため、料理では五枚おろし後に骨を確認します。
