Kisslip cuttlefish

Acanthosepion lycidas

This thick-bodied cuttlefish has eye-like markings on its mantle. Mongou-ika is a familiar market name but can also refer to other cuttlefish. Let an egi settle near sand or mud and allow time for the take.

Habitat and season

Coastal sandy and muddy seabeds of central and southern Japan.

背に目のような紋が並ぶ、大きなコウイカの仲間。モンゴウイカの名で親しまれるが、その商品名には別種が含まれることもある。エギングでは底付近でエギを見せ、抱く間を作る釣りが基本になる。

口とカンナに注意。重い個体は抜き上げない。加熱用と生食用を区別し、生食は適切に管理された食用の身に限る。
