Eging — squid jig fishing
エギング
An egi is a shrimp-shaped squid jig with a crown of barbless hooks. Squid often take it while it sinks after a lift.
Tackle and preparation
An eging rod matched to the jig size, spinning reel, braid and leader. Choose sinking speed to suit depth and weed.
On the water
- Cast into clear space and allow the jig to sink.
- Lift it with controlled rod movements, then let it fall.
- Watch for a stopped fall or a sideways line movement; lift firmly and keep tension.
