Jaydia lineata
A small cardinalfish with pale vertical bars, known as nebuto in parts of the Seto Inland Sea. It differs from the horizontally striped nenbutsudai already in this encyclopedia.

A multi-hook rig imitates tiny prey while a bait basket releases a small trail of shrimp. Fish vertically at a permitted pier rather than swinging exposed hooks through a crowd.

Short hook branches above a sinker keep bait near bottom while separating it from the seabed.
