淡い銀色でやや細長い体。えらぶた上部の黒い斑点が手掛かりです。イシモチという釣り名はニベなどにも使われるため、斑点や体形も見比べます。
飲み込んだ針は無理に引き抜かず、長い針外しを使います。持ち帰る魚は速やかに血抜き・冷却し、常温へ置きっぱなしにしません。
