Flathead flounder

Hippoglossoides dubius
Flathead flounder have a relatively large mouth and may show reddish colour on the underside. These cool-water fish are more associated with offshore bottom fishing than casual beach casting.
Habitat and season
Cold sandy and muddy offshore bottoms in northern Japan and the Sea of Japan.

大きめの口を持つ冷水域のカレイ。無眼側が赤みを帯びることがあるが、赤いという一点だけでは魚種を断定しない。沿岸の投げ釣りより沖の船釣りで出会う魚として覚えたい。
船の重いオモリと針に注意。取り込み後も甲板に仕掛けを広げたままにしない。
