Blackfin seabass

Blackfin seabass have a deeper body and thicker tail wrist than Japanese seabass. Anglers work minnows through current beside exposed rocks, but breaking waves are never a reason to enter an unsafe ledge.

Habitat and season

Warm exposed rocky coasts of central and southern Japan.
