身近なフナ釣りの対象。コイのような口ひげはなく、ヘラブナより体高が低めだが、フナ類は外見だけで種を確定しにくい個体もいる。
私有の池や観賞池へ無断で入らない。持ち帰り禁止の管理池では食用にせず、生きた魚を移植しない。
