Acanthocepola krusensternii
Akatachi is a red-spotted bandfish encountered during deeper horse-mackerel and tilefish trips. It emerges from burrows in muddy seabeds to feed. Check dorsal-fin and upper-mouth markings to distinguish similar bandfish; it is not a hairtail.
Habitat and season
Continental-shelf sand and mud from central Japan southwards.

赤いリボンのような体を持ち、深場のアジ釣りやアマダイ釣りに混じる魚。泥底の穴から体を出して餌を取る。タチウオに似た名前でも別の仲間で、スミツキアカタチやイッテンアカタチとの見分けも大切。
小さな針とひれの棘に注意。種類が不明なら食用と断定しない。細かな骨を取り、料理は中心まで加熱する。
