Goldeye rockfish

One of the offshore rockfish called okimebaru. Irregular dark patches on the upper flank help distinguish it from plainer species. On a boat, reproduce the skipper’s instructed depth rather than dragging the rig over rock.

船の沖メバル釣りを代表する一種。大きな眼と体の上側のまだら模様が目立つ。「オキメバル」は複数種の呼び名なので、岸のメバルとも別に覚えたい。

ひれの棘に注意。深場からの魚は減圧の影響を受けるため、持ち帰る量を考えて釣る。
