褐色の体に明るい筋が走る北のソイ。クロソイより模様がはっきりする個体が多く、根魚釣りで出会う。餌をくわえると隠れ場所へ戻ろうとするので、底を知ることが大切。

鋭いひれとえらの縁を避ける。産卵に関わる大型個体の持ち帰りは必要な量にとどめる。
